Exposición sin título de Lucas Ospina
Entre otras cosas, “El hombre sin atributos” (de Musil), habla sobre las transformaciones de las actitudes, costumbres e inclinaciones políticas de un grupo de seres humanos que coinciden en algo semejante a una campaña política o publicitaria llamada “Acción paralela” en el ficticio Estado de Kakania, luego de que este hubiera sido modernizado hasta la muerte. Una de las conclusiones que se suele extraer del inventario de sobreactuaciones que podría llegar a tener alguien dotado de cierta forma de poder, y que se ve ilustrado en el libro de Musil, es la de que el hombre del siglo pasado llegó a comprender que le resultaba mejor vivir asumiendo de manera simultánea que casi no poseía atributos morales, como que debía cumplir permanentemente con un mandato de contemporaneidad. Para el sujeto genérico que esbozaba Musil entre todos sus personajes, existía el peligro de verse condenado al anacronismo si seguía de forma rigurosa algunas pautas o permanecía bastante tiempo aferrado a una idea. En una de sus páginas Musil afirmaba que “un pensamiento que no tiene un fin práctico es una ocupación secreta, algo indecente […] en tiempos pasados se solía hablar del vuelo del pensamiento; y, en la época de Schiller, un hombre con tan engreídas ideas en el pecho hubiera sido muy bien visto; hoy día, en cambio, se tiene la impresión de que en una persona así algo hay que no va en orden, caso de no coincidir casualmente ese algo con su profesión y con la fuente de sus ingresos.”
De ahí que la apropiación que hizo Ospina del título del libro mencionado no fuera tan pretenciosa (o descabellada). El dibujante se apoyó en el literato para insistir que la especie humana carece ahora, y por lo menos desde hace casi cien años, de la cualidad de ocuparse en actividades no productivas. Esto no es nada nuevo. Se ha repetido a lo largo de un tiempo mucho mayor. Y sin embargo, el hecho mismo de que esa exposición de dibujos haya tenido lugar en el marco de un encuentro de artistas invitados explícitamente para hacer parte de un evento articulado en torno al significante “hospitalidad” permite contemplar la posibilidad de cruzar algunas de sus implicaciones. Una de ellas, por ejemplo, la de la utilidad que tiene convocar a agentes del campo artístico de varios sectores de un país para que actúen durante un tiempo determinado en una ciudad, sin saberse por otra parte qué tipo de parámetros se siguieron para hacer ese llamamiento. Sin embargo, y para evitar caer en eso que el mismo Ospina destacara en otro lugar como la imposibilidad de escribir “sobre exposiciones sin que el polo de atracción de la crítica institucional haga que los textos que comienzan por las obras terminen convertidos en quejas de índole politico–administrativa”, creo que por ahora esta pregunta debería dirigirse al grupo de curadores que orientó el evento como una articulación de intereses colectivos en un marco institucional definido singularmente bajo un significante exclusivo: “hospitalidad”.
¡Las obras, las obras! La ausencia de un espacio material identificable en todas las piezas exhibidas en la muestra de Ospina es equivalente a una reflexión sobre la inestabilidad de los contactos hospitalarios: sus escenas no ilustran ningún simulacro de hospitalidad, pues destacan con profusión a muchos sujetos que reflexionan mejor sobre sí mismos estando a solas o relacionándose disfuncionalmente con sus semejantes. Son personajes egoístas que utilizan al otro como una prótesis emocional.
Para demostrarlo, el dibujante sigue una serie de normas que comienzan por querer darle fuerza a la totalidad del conjunto montando las imágenes en una secuencia similar a la de un arreglo musical de tres partes: en la primera, un grupo de humanos dibujados en el centro de una hoja de marca Fabriano (el mismo que usan los artistas para hacer “obras de arte en papel”), están acompañados de un texto escrito a lápiz en la parte inferior; la segunda está hecha en papel bond que perteneció a una libreta de apuntes, y en ella se repite un personaje de traje y corbata en contacto con un joven de camiseta y pantalón, una mujer desnuda que tiene botas altas y guantes negros hasta los codos y a veces ejerce el papel de dominatriz, o con una niña que usa un vestido negro habitual en reuniones familiares especiales. En la tercera etapa, muestra unos dibujos elaborados con líneas gruesas y colores vivos, donde reitera su atención al desencuentro constante entre todos nosotros.
Otra de sus constantes es la anulación del referente espacial. Mediante la eliminación obsesiva de un contexto físico que ambiente sus representaciones, Ospina amplifica el sentido de soledad de sus personajes sin mostrar mucha lástima por ellos: además de dejarlos sin virtudes, les quita su lugar en el mundo, poniéndolos a actuar en función exclusiva de su propio cuerpo, sufriendo por él o con él, haciendo yoga, deshaciéndose de una piel muerta o escondiendo una parte suya en un hueco. Es decir, mostrando como se ocupan en algo, sin ocupar a su vez ningún entorno.
El juego con las palabras aparece en la segunda sección, donde Ospina establece una dicotomía entre los términos “ARTE”o “VIDA” para interrelacionar la significación de algunas actitudes simultáneas entre dos sujetos puestos en acto y llegando en ocasiones a hacerlas parte de sus cuerpos. No obstante, esta generalización queda puesta en entredicho cuando el artista pone la palabra “INDUL GENCIA” (con el vacío en el centro), sobre una bala de gas de la que sale una manguera cuyo extremo termina en la boca del hombre de traje y corbata, quien tiene inflada su cabeza como un globo y sobre la que está posado, según recuerdo, un pájaro. Gas, hombre, globo y pájaro se asocian a través de una línea que va de un elemento a otro y muestran los efectos que produce algo que no se puede contemplar a simple vista: si un contenedor se llena con algo, sus dimensiones se modifican hacia el exterior, y si la estructura de ese contendor es lo suficientemente flexible, en teoría, no se sabrá dónde terminan sus límites, hasta que estalle.
Otro de los ejes de ese segundo grupo de dibujos es la preocupación del artista por analizar la dinámica que ha adquirido en la actualidad el proceso de formación de los estudiantes de arte en las facultades universitarias. En uno de sus comentarios (que perfectamente también podría aplicarse para la propia exposición), Ospina dibuja al personaje de corbata acurrucado encima de una columna de libros señalando la nuca de la niña vestida de traje de gala, que mira hacia otro lado.
La coda de esta muestra es dada por el retorno que hace al autor al problema de las relaciones humanas, llevándolo en la tercera reunión de dibujos a un nivel de conflicto ubicado mucho más allá del problemático encuentro entre pares profesionales. En esta sección dibuja en su mayoría a dos sujetos (aunque algunas veces el doble está constituido por un reflejo), que exhiben abiertamente una actitud ideológica. Si bien persisten en su aislamiento pareciera que ahora racionalizan (medianamente) su situación y la interpretan (como pueden) de un modo decididamente político, es decir, buscando persuadir a quien tienen más cerca sobre la validez de sus convicciones. Incluso el autor los pone a ostentar algunos íconos identificados con ciertas formas de gobierno, sin que ahonden demasiado sobre su sentido. Esta confusión, que en la realidad suele rodear a quienes dicen practicar alguna variante de radicalismo, aparece ilustrada en el dibujo de un joven (o un adulto joven), que está sentado sobre una tortuga apoyada en un resorte y mira a un espejo haciendo el gesto de victoria con la mano derecha. En la espalda de su camiseta tiene estampada una svástica, mientras el pecho de su reflejo muestra un símbolo de anarquía. Así mismo ese sujeto no está sentado sino de pie y junto a él tiene a un perro amarillo que sonríe mirando a la nada.
Esta exposición permite una lectura de dos vías, ninguna de ellas estricta y ninguna de las dos excluyente de otras posibles alternativas. Su correlato no es únicamente la política ni el arte por el arte. Más bien, se ubica transitoriamente entre ambas categorías y admite tanto la ambigüedad de los postulados del autor como la idea de que sus presupuestos, sus prejuicios y sus referencias no son prerrogativas de un sujeto formado y perteneciente a un solo campo profesional. Ospina se sabe no ignorante de la ficción de autonomía que define a cada núcleo social y puede considerarse que dibuja lo que cree ver para que el espectador le dé el sentido que crea encontrar. Uno y otro están inmersos en el mismo vacío de sentido que sustenta la ficción de autonomía del campo artístico y que se ve con mucha mayor claridad cuando se ubica dentro de marcos como el que ofrece ahora el encuentro de Medellín.
